You can change settings for numerous options using the Options dialog. To access the Options dialog, first make sure you have a document open, then in the Tools menu, click Options. The Options dialog divides the options into the following categories:

Display
Scroll
Region
Font
Color
Settings
Mode

Display

Use the Display tab of the Options dialog to specify display settings. It has the following fields:

Font: Select the desired size of displayed text from the Size dropdown list. iSilo™ can interpret the size in either of two ways:

Relative: Text displays in a size relative to the selected size, so you can select larger to make all text relatively larger or select smaller to make all text relatively smaller.
Absolute: All text displays in the selected size regardless of the font sizes specified in the document.

If you want all text to display in bold, then check Display text in bold.

Layout: Select one of the following for content layout:

Enable table layout: Display tables in their intended multi-column form.
Disable table layout: Display each cell of the table on a new line. This mode may make it easier to view some table content, especially for tables that were formatted for a larger screen.
Disable all layout: Disable content layout, resulting in reduced display capabilities, such as tables not being displayed in row and column format and not being able to view image or preformatted content wider than the screen. If the document is text with no special layout, then there will usually be no noticeable differences in display.

Location: Select one of the following for the location indicator in the tool bar:

Automatic: If the document has no more than two pages, display the percentage location within the current page. Otherwise, if the document has three or more pages, display the current page number.
Page number: Display the current page number.
Percentage: Display the percentage location within the current page.

Text: Select one of the following for the display of text:

Normal: Display text normally.
Align right: Force text that normally aligns to the left to align to the right.

Magnification: Select the magnification factor for displaying document content.

Text encoding: The encoding of a document's text determines how individual characters are represented and what characters can be represented.
If the document does not specify its encoding, you can manually specify the encoding of the document's text from the following supported encodings:
- UTF-8: Unicode
- GB2312: Simplified Chinese
- GB18030: Simplified Chinese
- Big5: Traditional Chinese
- EUC-JP: Japanese
- Shift-JIS: Japanese
- EUC-KR: Korean
- windows-1250: Central European
- windows-1251: Cyrillic
- windows-1252: Western European
- windows-1253: Greek
- windows-1254: Turkish
- windows-1255: Hebrew
- windows-1256: Arabic
- windows-1257: Baltic
- windows-1258: Vietnamese
- windows-874: Thai
- KOI8-R: Cyrillic
For a document that does not specify its encoding, iSilo™ assumes the windows-1252 Western European encoding. Only documents in iSilo™ 4.x document format have the ability to specify their own encoding, which would have been specified at conversion time.
If the document does specify its encoding, then this field shows Specified by document and you can not manually specify a different encoding. You can determine the document's encoding through the Document Information dialog.
Note that proper support for the display of text in the chosen encoding is necessary from the operating system or a third party program that adds such support in order for iSilo™ to display the text. Most systems support at least the windows-1252 Western European encoding.
Also set as defaults for newly opened documents: Check this checkbox if you also want the settings to be the default display settings given to documents you newly open in the future.

Please note the following:

Settings you make on the Display tab of the Options dialog only affect the current document.
If you check Also set as defaults for newly opened documents, future documents that you have not yet opened also get these settings as their default display option settings.
Documents which you have already opened in the past retain their existing display settings and are not affected even if you check Also set as defaults for newly opened documents.

Scroll

Use the Scroll tab of the Options dialog to change scroll behavior. It has the following fields:

Autoscroll: Set autoscroll to scroll in one of the following ways:
- Line at a time: Scroll a whole line at a time.
- Smooth: Use smooth scrolling.
Screen up/down behavior: These settings determine the behavior of the Screen up and Screen down scroll actions. The possible behaviors are:
- Full with text align: When performing a scroll up, if the current first line is partially displayed, the bottom of it aligns with the bottom of the window after the scroll so that it becomes fully displayed as the last line. When performing a scroll down, if the current last line is partially displayed, the top of it aligns with the top of the window after the scroll so that it becomes fully displayed as the first line.
- Full screen: Scroll the content by the entire height of the window.
- 90% of the screen: Scroll the window by 90% of its height. This provides a 10% overlap of content from one window of content to the next, useful for providing context from one window to the next.
- Half screen: Scroll the content by half the window height.
Show the scroll bar when in full screen mode: Check this option to have the scroll bar available when viewing a document in full screen mode.
Cursor key behavior: You can modify how much the cursor keys scroll content.

Region

Use the Region tab of the Options dialog to change the behavior when clicking on different areas of the window.

The window is divided into four click regions. Each region's size and action when clicked is configurable. The left part of the Region tab page allows you to change the size of each region and the right side allows you to change the scroll behavior for each region when clicked.

Regions
A click region can range in size from 8% to 76% of the total height used to display text. You can change the sizes of the regions by dragging up or down the horizontal lines that separate the regions.

While dragging a separator line, it appears as a gray line until you release it. Dragging a single separator line only changes the division of space between the two regions that the line separates, so you may have to change the position of more than one separator line to get your desired region sizes.

Region Action
The region actions determine the scroll behavior when the region is tapped. These are the available actions:

Drag: Drag across the screen in any direction to scroll in the respective direction by the distance dragged.

Screen up: Scroll up by a screen. The Screen up behavior setting determines the actual amount to scroll.
Line up: Scroll up by a line.
None: Do not scroll at all.
Line down: Scroll down by a line.
Screen down: Scroll down by a screen. The Screen down behavior setting determines the actual amount to scroll.

Font

Use the Font tab of the Options dialog to set the specific font to use for individual font families. It has the following fields:

Font family name: Select a family name to see what font is used to display it. Here are descriptions of the families:
- Default: This family applies only to documents that do not have font specifications for the content such as plain text documents, including documents in the Palm Doc format.
- Serif: This family applies to content that specifies a font with finishing strokes, or flared or tapered ends. Examples of such fonts are Times New Roman and Garamond.
- Sans Serif: This family applies to content that specifies a font with plain endings (e.g., no finishing strokes, nor flared or tapered ends). Examples of such fonts are Arial and Tahoma.
- Monospace: This family applies to content that specifies a fixed-width font (e.g., each character has the same width). An example of such a font is Courier New.
Font to use: This shows the font used for the selected font family. You can change the font to a different one for the family.
Preview: The window shows how the selected font looks.
Size: You can select the size of the font used in the preview.
Bold: You can see how the font looks in bold by checking this checkbox.
Italic: You can see how the font looks in italics by checking this checkbox.

Note: If you are viewing a document in iSilo™ format, changing the Default family font will likely not do anything since content in such documents generally specify some font. So to actually effect a change in the fonts used for documents in iSilo™ format, you will want to modify one or more of the Serif, Sans Serif, and/or Monospace family fonts, depending on which are actually used by the document.

Color

Use the Color tab of the Options dialog to select and edit color themes. Selecting a color theme forces all text and background colors of the current document to those of the selected color theme. Select No color theme to have the document display normally. Each document can have an individual color theme setting.

Creating a new color theme
Click New to create a new color theme. In the Edit Color Theme dialog that appears after tapping New, enter into the Name field a unique name for the color theme. Click Text and Background to select the text and background colors, respectively, for the color theme.

Modifying a color theme
To modify a color theme, first select the name of the color theme from the list, then click Edit. In the Edit Color Theme dialog that appears, change the Name field if desired to a new unique name for the color theme. Click Text and Background to change the text and background colors, respectively, of the color theme.

Deleting a color theme
To delete a color theme, first select the name of the color theme from the list, then click Delete. iSilo™ asks you to confirm that you want to delete the selected color theme before actually doing so.

Note: The Color tab is only available when a document is open.

Settings

Use the Settings tab of the Options dialog to specify settings that affect the saving of a document's local settings. A document's local settings include the following items:

Last viewed location in the document

Location of the unnamed mark
Jump history
Local bookmarks
Display settings such as font size and table display mode

iSilo™ creates an individual file in the "Application Data\iSilo\iSilo\Settings" folder of your personal folder for each document's local settings for which it saves. By default, iSilo™ automatically saves the local settings for a document when you close the document. You can change this behavior by changing the Local settings field. The three possible choices are the following:

Automatically save: Automatically save the local settings of a document without asking when you close it.
Ask before saving: Ask you whether you want to save the local settings when you close a document.
Do not save: Do not save the local settings when you close a document.

Each local settings file takes up storage space. Over time, if you have viewed many documents, the cumulative space occupied by the local settings files can add up. So by default, when the amount of space used reaches 1000KB, iSilo™ deletes the oldest settings files (e.g., based on when the local settings were last written) until the space used goes down to about 90% of the limit. You can increase or decrease this limit by changing the Maximum amount of space to use field.

If you tend to keep a lot of documents around, you may want to increase the limit. If you are tight on space and do not care so much about the local settings of documents you have not viewed recently, then you may want to decrease the limit. The actual size of a local settings file currently depends mostly on how many local bookmarks you have created for the document. However, a rough estimate of the size of a typical local settings file might be anywhere from half a kilobyte to one kilobyte. Using this rough estimate, a limit of 1000KB should allow for at least the saving of the local settings for the last 1000 documents you have viewed.

Mode

Use the Mode tab of the Options dialog to specify trial and free mode settings.

While in trial or registered mode, you can use the Free mode option to turn free mode on and off to see what that mode is like.

During the 30-day trial period, you can use the Show trial period reminder option to enable or disable the messages that let you know how many days you have left in your trial period.
